Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located? Can I bring my computer to you?

My home office is located in South Yarmouth. P&M Computer Services is a mobile based computer repair company. Most of my day is spent at my client’s location so, I’m usually not at my home office to receive drop-offs. However, I can arrange for a pick-up time where I will come to the client's location, bring the computer to my home office and then schedule a drop-off time which is convenient for the client.

Do you come to my home or business?

Yes, P&M Computers provides on-site computer repair services to homeowners and small business owners of Cape Cod.

How long have you been in business?

As of August 2001.

Are you certified?

Yes, I have been CompTIA A+ Certified since 2006.

Do you charge by the hour or by the job?

I’ve used both methods. Usually, I charge by the hour. However, for certain lengthy or complex issues which require extensive hours, I will usually quote a maximum flat rate.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Currently, the only form of payment I accept is a local check or cash.

Do you take credit cards?

No, I do not accept credit cards at the current time.

How much does it cost to remove a virus from my computer?

It really depends on the severity of the infection. Some infections I have been able to remove within in as little as an hour while more extensive virus infections have taken up to 3 hours or more.

What is your turnaround time?

Usually, I can resolve the issue within the same day. For more complex issues I may need to take the computer back to my home office for 24 to 48 hours. I try to return computers as quickly as possible.

Do you fix broken laptop screens?

No, I don’t, but may have some suggestions as to whom you may be able to ask.

What types of hardware repairs do you do?

I will install small hardware upgrades or replacement parts such as Memory Modules, Hard Drives, DVD-ROM Drives, Desktop Power Supplies, and Desktop Video Cards.

The charging port on my laptop is broken, can you fix it?

I do not handle this type of repair, but may know of someone who may be able to help you.

Do you sell or stock components?

No, I do not sell or stock any sort of component. I can order smaller items such as RAM, Hard Drives, Desktop Power Supplies, Wireless Routers, etc., but in general, I do not have replacement parts on hand.

My computer died or won't boot, can you retrieve my data?

As long as I’m able to access the hard drive and if it’s still operational, then yes there is a pretty good chance that I can retrieve the data.

Do you build or sell computers?

While I do not "sell" computers, I have built custom computers for clients based on their personal needs.

I can help advise the client what hardware components may be best for them, and I can assemble the computer, but it is with the understanding that I am not actually selling a computer to the client. All parts must be paid in full prior to ordering, cannot be cancelled once the order has been placed and I am not liable for any hardware issues that may need addressing through warranty claims.

Do you work on Macs?

Yes, to a certain extent I do. I have been able to provide support for basic and moderate Mac issues.

Do you provide remote access?

No, not at the current time.
